Ryan Hunter-Reay won his first Champ Car race at Surfers Paradise in 2003. He was the first American Rookie to win a Champ Car race in 20 years. Since then, he has tallied another victory; he won earlier this season at Milwaukee.
30 Races: This weekend's Lexmark Indy 300 will be Hunter-Reay's 30th Champ Car start. A sophomore and the defending Lexmark Indy Race winner in the Champ Car World Series, Hunter-Reay has earned one pole position, two victories and a third place podium finish. He is currently ranked eighth in the series championship.
Defending Race Winner (S): Herdez Competition earned their first race victory two years ago at the Lexmark Indy 300 and they are proud to return with the two most recent race winners. Mario Dominguez (#55) won in 2003 and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#4) was victorious here last year. It was the maiden victory for both drivers. If one of the Herdez Competition drivers wins this weekend, they will become the first two-time winner in the ever in the history of the Surfers Paradise Champ Car event. |
