RHR Returns to Surfers Paradise to Defend His Title PDF Print E-mail

 Ryan Hunter-Reay won his first Champ Car race at Surfers Paradise in 2003. He was the first American Rookie to win a Champ Car race in 20 years. Since then, he has tallied another victory; he won earlier this season at Milwaukee.

30 Races: This weekend's Lexmark Indy 300 will be Hunter-Reay's 30th Champ Car start. A sophomore and the defending Lexmark Indy Race winner in the Champ Car World Series, Hunter-Reay has earned one pole position, two victories and a third place podium finish. He is currently ranked eighth in the series championship.

Defending Race Winner (S): Herdez Competition earned their first race victory two years ago at the Lexmark Indy 300 and they are proud to return with the two most recent race winners. Mario Dominguez (#55) won in 2003 and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#4) was victorious here last year. It was the maiden victory for both drivers. If one of the Herdez Competition drivers wins this weekend, they will become the first two-time winner in the ever in the history of the Surfers Paradise Champ Car event.

Australian Connection:Ashleigh McKean, transport driver for the #4 team is a native of Australia. McKean joined is from Dingee, Victoria.

In the last four days I have been swimming with sharks and dolphins, I surfed with the World Champion Surfer, Luke Eagen, I judged the Miss Indy pageant and then today I had one of the most amazing rides of my life in the Roulette. Now it's time to get down to business on my favorite street circuit and I am fully focused on becoming the first two-time winner in this event's 14-year history.”
