Monterrey Race Report CRAZY RACE RESULTS IN SEVENTH PLACE FINISH PDF Print E-mail
MONTERREY, Mexico (May 22, 2005) – During a race day that resulted in nine yellow flags, Rocketsports driver Ryan Hunter-Reay finished the day in seventh, fighting extremely warm temperatures and high humidity, to put on a good show in front of a race day crowd of 111,518 fans in Monterrey, Mexico. Starting 17th on the grid this afternoon, Hunter-Reay’s afternoon went better than expected, after a long weekend of miscellaneous troubles.  Having two successful pit stops, the American found his way to the sixth spot in his #31 Briggs & Stratton Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone with 15 laps to go.  With three laps to go, Hunter-Reay dropped down to the eighth spot, but maneuvered his way around the 2.104-mile permanent road course of Fundidora Park to obtain one spot before the checkered flag, resulting in a seventh place finish.  Taking home seventeen points from today’s finish, Hunter-Reay sits 11th in the Championship standing after two races with a total of 25 points.

Ryan will head to Milwaukee to battle on the venerable mile oval in two weeks for Round Three of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.

Quotes
Ryan Hunter-Reay #31 Briggs & Stratton Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone
“Today was a decent result to a nightmare of a weekend, all considering, I am pretty happy.  If things had gone our way with the yellows, then maybe we could have won the race.  But that is the great thing about Champ Car, you never know how things will go during the race and it is always an exciting part of the whole show.  We will now go back to the Rocketsports shop and figure out what we need to improve on for our next road course event, Portland.”
