Champ Car World Series Round Seven - Edmonton, Canada - 17 July 2005 Edmonton in Canada provided a brand new venue for the Champ Car World Series this weekend but the change of scenery didn’t bring about a change of luck for Ryan Hunter-Reay who continues to fight against a loose car. Hunter-Reay quickly learned the new circuit and declared on Friday that it was a great track as it was a lot of fun and very fast. During the wet running on Saturday both Rocketsports cars were quick so he and his team-mate, Timo Glock, were hoping for more rain for qualifying. The track dried out though so Hunter-Reay started the race from 14th on the grid. The American gained two positions at the drop of the green flag but soon reported in to his crew that every time he got close to the car in front his car would get very loose, making passing extremely difficult. Then, just one lap before he was due in for his second pit-stop, Hunter-Reay slowed on the track. Although the data said there was plenty of fuel remaining in his car this wasn’t the case and his race was over on lap 51 as Paul Gentilozzi, Rocketsports Team Owner, explains: “Our calculations showed that we had a lap and a half left in fuel. So things appeared to be fine, but we ran out of fuel somehow. I am not sure if there is a complication with the car or what happened, we will have to find out for sure when the car comes back. It is a shame because he (Hunter-Reay) had a good car for today’s race and was having a good run.” Hunter-Reay was naturally disappointed with the result but typically pragmatic: “We had a great start this afternoon, passing cars during the first lap, which gave us the momentum for a good race. If we would have stayed in the race, we probably would have finished like we did in Toronto, with a sixth or seventh place result easily. It is unfortunate that we ran out of fuel one lap before were had to pit. That is racing though and things like that happen.” Ryan Hunter-Reay’s next race is on Sunday 31 July on the streets of San Jose, California. EDMONTON RESULT: 1.
